Uloric Lawsuits
Have You or a Loved One Suffered a Heart Attack, Stroke, or Died While Taking Uloric?
The FDA recently warned that patients taking the gout medication Uloric (febuxostat) face an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, heart-related death, and death from all other causes.
If you or a loved one suffered an injury due to this gout medication, we urge you to contact our Uloric lawyers for a free case review.
In February 2019, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a safety communication regarding the potential dangers associated with the gout medication, Uloric (febuxostat). This new safety warning is an update to a prior warning from November 2017, where the FDA make a public announcement that they were investigating potential links between Uloric and heart-related deaths.
Following a recent post-marketing study, the FDA concluded that using Uloric does increase the risk of death, not only from heart-related issues, but all possible causes.
As a result of this conclusion, the FDA is requiring Uloric manufacturer, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, to include a black boxed warning (the FDA’s most prominent warning) on the product as well as an updated medication guide, alerting physicians and patients of the potential health risks associated with Uloric.
Potential Injuries Linked to Uloric
Results from the FDA’s study show that patients taking Uloric may face an increased risk of:
- Heart attack
- Stroke
- Unstable angina (inadequate blood supply to the heart which requires intervention)
- Heart-related death
- Death (all possible causes)
If you or a loved one are currently taking Uloric to treat gout and experience any of the following symptoms, seek emergency medical attention immediately. These symptoms include:
- Chest pain
- Shortness of breath
- Rapid or irregular heartbeat
- Numbness or weakness on one site of your body
- Dizziness
- Trouble Talking
- Severe headache or migraine
What is Uloric?
Uloric is manufactured by Takeda Pharmaceuticals and was approved by the FDA in 2009 to treat gout, a type of arthritis. Gout occurs when uric acid builds up in the body and causes sudden attacks or “flare ups” of joint pain, swelling, and redness. Uloric works by reducing the levels of uric acid in the blood and is one of the limited medications available to treat gout.
Gout is a chronic disease and affects approximately 8.3 million adults in the United States. Gout is most common in men between the ages of 40-50, but women, young adults, and even children can develop the condition.
