News: Worker dies after big rig hits bucket truck on I-376 in east Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, PA — A construction worker died early Friday after a tractor-trailer crash on the Penn-Lincoln Parkway in east Pittsburgh, reports WPXI.

The fatal incident occurred on the eastbound lanes near the Forbes Avenue exit to the city’s Oakland area. Pittsburgh firefighters, medics, and Pennsylvania State Police were called to the scene at about 3:15 a.m.

An early investigation indicates a bucket truck was in the left lane during ongoing construction. The man was working in the truck’s bucket, which was extended out over the right lane. At one point, a tractor-trailer struck the bottom of the bucket, sending the bucket off its axis. As a result, the worker was thrown from the bucket and suffered a fall off of the overpass.

Other nearby workers rendered aid to the victim before first responders arrived and rushed him to a local hospital in critical condition. Officials said the man later died from his injuries.

The driver of the tractor-trailer remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

A section of the eastbound interstate at the exit was shut down during the emergency response.

An investigation by Pennsylvania State Police remains ongoing.
