News: 1 dead after pickup truck hits horse-drawn buggy in New Wilmington

MERCER COUNTY, PA — A 77-year-old man died Saturday evening after a rear-end crash involving a horse-drawn buggy in New Wilmington, according to WPXI.

The fatal collision occurred in the 400 block of New Castle-Mercer Road. It was first reported to Mercer County dispatchers at about 5:30 p.m.

An early investigation by Pennsylvania State Police indicates a Ford F-150XLT pickup truck hit the back of the buggy, causing the buggy’s driver to eject and land in a nearby field. Authorities said the victim suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Though two occupants of the Ford were not properly seat-belted at the time, no other injuries were reported.

Both the pickup and the buggy were significantly damaged in the wreck.

An investigation remains in progress. No charges have been reported as of this writing.
