News: Driver surrenders himself after fatal crash on I-376, faces multiple charges

ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA — A 28-year-old man faces multiple charges in connection to a 2022 crash near east Pittsburgh that claimed the life of another man, according to WPXI.

The fatal collision occurred on Interstate 376 near mile marker 79.8 on July 9, 2022, at about 2:33 a.m.

A police report indicates the suspect, Troy Modrak, an Irwin resident, was driving a Chevy Silverado pickup truck west in the eastbound highway. At one point, the pickup hit a Honda HR-V, causing it to spin and overturn.

Pennsylvania State Police said the driver of the HR-V suffered severe injuries. His passenger, a 47-year-old man identified as Thomas Linwood Ligon, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

WPXI’s original report posted on July 9, 2022, indicates both the driver of the Honda and the Chevrolet were transported to local hospital for treatment. A third vehicle was said to have received minor damage in the crash, but no other injuries were reported.

On Thursday, June 15, 2023, the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office announced that Modrak had turned himself in to deputies following the wrong-way crash. He has since been processed into Allegheny County Jail and faces multiple charges, including, among others, “homicide by vehicle, homicide by vehicle while DUI, aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, and involuntary manslaughter.”
