News: Man airlifted after box truck slams into Penn Township bar

WESTMORELAND COUNTY, PA — A man was flown to a hospital Monday night after the box truck he was driving crashed into a bar in Penn Township, reports WPXI.

The wreck took place at McBride Station, located at 340 Pittsburgh Road. First responders were dispatched to the scene shortly after 9:30 p.m.

An investigation into the cause of the crash remains underway, but the male driver suffered critical injuries and was rushed by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital.

No customers or staff inside the bar were reported hurt, but the building was left with a large hole, which was covered with a tarp, and business was closed in the immediate aftermath.

Security footage obtained by WPXI shows the powerful, explosive impact of the crash.

According to the owners of the business, the building has withstood at least 20 crashes. In 2008, a multi-vehicle accident along the nearby stretch of Route 8 claimed the life of a 24-year-old.
