Driver critically injured in crash with phone pole near west Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, PA — A woman was hospitalized Tuesday morning after a single-vehicle wreck in Pittsburgh’s Westwood neighborhood, reports WPXI.

Pittsburgh Police and first responders were called to the scene in the 600 block of Greentree Road at about 9;45 a.m.

Details remain limited, but authorities said the woman was driving at a high rate of speed in the left lane and was apparently trying to illegally pass several vehicles. Moments later, her car struck the pole.

Medics rushed the female driver to a local hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.

No other injuries were reported.

A section of Greentree Road was shut down during the response and investigation.

The Pittsburgh Police Department’s Collision Investigation Unit is handling the case.
