News: 2 killed as cars collide on PA-981 in Derry Township
WESTMORELAND COUNTY, PA — A man and a woman died late Saturday after a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 981 in northwest Derry Township, according to WPXI.
Authorities said the fatal accident happened on a span of PA-981 between Flowers Road and Slag Road. It was first reported just after 9:00 p.m.
An early investigation shows a 35-year-old North Fayette Township man was driving northbound when his car veered past the center line and into the southbound lane. Moments later, his vehicle hit a Honda CRV head-on.
The causing driver and the victim driver, 61, suffered fatal injuries. About two hours later, both were pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the Westmoreland County Office of the Coroner.
An investigation was in progress, but speed is believed to have been a factor. The male driver was found to have not been wearing a seat belt.
