News: Driver dies after crash with DUI suspect in Hempfield
WESTMORELAND COUNTY, PA — A 73-year-old Franklin Township woman died Wednesday afternoon after a head-on collision in Hempfield Township, according to TRIB.
The fatal wreck occurred on Arona Road near Middletown Road, just east of Interstate 76. It was first reported at around 4:45 p.m.
Pennsylvania State Police said the woman was behind the wheel of a Kia Sedona at the same time a 23-year-old Irwin woman was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer in the opposing lanes. At one point, the Trailblazer failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. She then veered into oncoming traffic, resulting in a crash.
Troopers said the Franklin Township woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Irwin woman suffered minor injuries but declined transport to a hospital. Officials said she displayed signs of impairment at the scene. As of this writing, no pending charges or citations have been reported.
An autopsy is expected to be conducted Thursday. No further details have been shared at this time.
