John Munoz joined Chaffin Luhana in 2024 after over ten years of service as a lawyer in the public sector. He attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor for his undergraduate studies, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in 2008. Shortly thereafter, John decided he wanted to attend law school in order to represent individuals who could not afford an attorney.
After graduating from the University of Michigan Law School in 2013, he served as law clerk to the Honorable Jeanne T. Covert, Presiding Judge of the New Jersey Superior Court in Burlington County. Following his clerkship, he began a career as a public defender in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. For the next nine years, John represented thousands of indigent clients, trying cases to verdict in front of both juries and judges. He rose the ranks of the office to become Chief Deputy Director in 2022, where his relentless focus on innovation, efficiency, and client-centered advocacy led the office to new heights. John led a nationally recognized initiative supported by the MacArthur Foundation that provided free legal representation to individuals at night and on the weekends.
Following his time as a public defender, John served as Deputy Court Administrator for the Fifth Judicial District of Pennsylvania, where he oversaw the operations of the 46 Magisterial District Courts and Pittsburgh Municipal Court in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. In this role John worked closely with dozens of judges and their staff. He routinely assisted court users with navigating Allegheny County’s judicial system.
John is passionate about helping injured people pursue justice and building strong working relationships with his clients. He places clients first and believes in the principle of always doing what is best for the client. His tenacious advocacy and steadfast support helps clients overcome adversity and guides them through their most difficult challenges.
Outside of the office, John enjoys golf, baseball, board games, cooking, travel, and spending time with his wife and three children.
