BLAIR COUNTY, PA — A tragic head-on crash in Blair County on Friday afternoon claimed the life of a Pittsburgh woman and left three others injured, according to local reports.
Details of the Crash
The accident occurred along Skelp Mountain Road as 29-year-old Monica Wignot of Pittsburgh was driving home from work. Investigators said Wignot’s vehicle crossed the center line for unknown reasons and collided head-on with an oncoming Buick. The force of the impact caused her vehicle to spin counterclockwise before coming to a stop in the roadway.
Casualties and Injuries
Emergency personnel quickly responded to the scene and transported Wignot to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts to save her, she later died from her injuries. Her dog, who was traveling with her at the time of the crash, was also killed.
The driver and passenger of the other vehicle sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment. Their current conditions have not yet been released.
Investigation Ongoing
Local law enforcement continues to investigate what caused Wignot’s vehicle to drift into oncoming traffic. Authorities have not confirmed whether factors such as distraction, fatigue, or weather conditions played a role. The road was temporarily closed following the collision as crews worked to clear debris and reconstruct the scene.
