The crash occurred around 3:33 p.m. on Furnace Hill Road in Fayette County after first responders were dispatched following reports of the wreck.

Crash Details

Authorities say the woman attempted to pass another vehicle while driving westbound and collided head-on with a school district van traveling eastbound. Her car then drifted into the westbound lane, where it was struck by a third vehicle unable to avoid the collision.

Victims & Medical Response

The woman died at the scene. The van driver and one student aboard the van were both seriously injured and airlifted to trauma centers. Two other elementary-aged students were treated for minor injuries at a hospital.

Investigation & Contributing Factors

State Police report that alcohol and excess speed appear to have played a role. The full investigation is ongoing to determine exact fault and causation.
