PITTSBURGH, PA — Three women were injured, including two critically, after a violent incident early Wednesday morning outside a bar in Pittsburgh’s East Hills neighborhood, according to WPXI.
Incident Location and Time
The crash occurred just before 3:00 a.m. near the intersection of Frankstown Avenue and Oakwood Street. Pittsburgh Public Safety officials say the event began as a dispute in the bar’s parking lot before escalating into a serious hit-and-run incident involving an SUV.
Sequence of Events
Authorities reported that a verbal altercation broke out among a group of people gathered outside the establishment. During the argument, a woman entered an SUV and, while attempting to drive away, struck two parked vehicles before hitting three female pedestrians. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with bystanders rushing to assist the victims as first responders arrived within minutes.
Injuries and Medical Response
Emergency crews found two women lying on the ground with serious injuries. Both were transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition but were later upgraded to stable condition. A third woman sustained minor injuries and declined hospital transport after being evaluated at the scene.
Driver Arrested and Investigation
The driver of the SUV fled the scene immediately after the crash but was later stopped by Wilkinsburg Police. She was taken into custody without incident and transferred to Pittsburgh Police for processing. The suspect was then taken to a hospital for evaluation of minor injuries before being charged. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading to the altercation and crash, including whether impairment or intent played a role.
Legal Rights for Victims of Intentional or Negligent Acts
Victims injured in vehicle-related assaults or reckless driving incidents may have legal grounds to pursue compensation for medical costs, emotional trauma, and lost wages. In cases where a driver intentionally uses a vehicle to cause harm, both criminal charges and civil claims may apply.
